The redevelopment of a Victorian residential townhouse to include a sensitive rear addition for dining and enjoying the garden. The property, within the East Canonbury Conservation Area, was in a dense urban environment and set-back brick thresholds ensured privacy for the occupants.
The brick coursing and window fenestrations are articulated in a way that complements the existing horizontality and verticality inherent with the host building. With monolithic rear brick benches, the same proportion as the horizontal brick peers. A rear work-from-home space has sliding doors at bench height to encourage interaction with the rear garden. A green roof tops the lower ground floor extension, ensuring beautiful views from the upper ground floor living spaces.
